The 2020 vintage was hot and dry. Cluster and berry size were both reduced, resulting in concentrated fruit and elevated tannins. The 2020 Gran Reserva is a small lot separated off from the Canted County Vineyard harvest and subjected to an extended élevage. This wine aged for 29 months in 100% new French oak, then allowed to rest in bottle for a further 30 months prior to release. This wine and the companion Canted County Reserva reflect the naming and aging conventions of Rioja, the birthplace of world class Tempranillo. The Gran Reserva bottling is robust, still bursting at the seams with concentrated fruit, leather, and cedar aromatics. The palate is full and rich. Tannins are structured, and this wine will age beautifully. If you can wait, you'll find the beauty. If you prefer to open this bottle a little sooner, you'll find the beast. Drink now or hold through 2035. Only 70 cases produced.
